Due Diligence
This course reviews the legal framework in place under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and what policies, procedures and work instructions employers must have in place to protect the health and safety of their employees. In addition the responsibilities of workplace parties will be reviewed.
Participants will become familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act:
- Minimum Standard
- Regulations made under the OHSA
- Internal Responsibility System
- Rights of Workers
- Offenses and fines
- The concept of Due Diligence
- Developing specific policies, practices and procedures for hazardous activities in the workplace
- Providing adequate orientation and training to workers.
- Ensuring that competent supervisory staff monitor hazardous work and communicate risks to workers
- Auditing the workplace for foreseeable health and safety risks and protect workers accordingly
- Ensuring compliance through rules and discipline.
- Never assume that the worker will know enough about the risks involved in any given task
