Lock Out – Hazardous Energy Control
Energy sources such as electrical, thermal, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and chemical pose dangers to personnel who are not trained to recognize the hazards. This course will provide information to those responsible for the control of energy sources.
Participants will:
- Review the duties of workplace parties set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Review of the Regulations for Industrial Establishments/851 as applied to locking out machinery and equipment; and how to comply with the regulation for working on electrical equipment for testing and troubleshooting purposes;
- Identify primary and secondary sources of energy that require lock-out and the various types of lock-out devices available;
- Identify which types of approved non-conducting tools, electrical testing equipment, and personal protective equipment are to be used for performing work on equipment;
- What precautions and procedures must be in place when working on equipment for the purposes of troubleshooting or setting up equipment;
- Lockout procedures, generic versus specific, defined, written, communicated, and reviewed.
- Hazard Assessment- identifying all hazards related to specific tasks on different equipment.
- Application of the CSA Standard Z-460-05.
